Funny Wine E-Mail

Tags: ,

My aunts forwarded me an e-mail yesterday they received, announcing a new discount item at Wal-Mart – wine! It goes on to say how it would be affordable and would target those looking for inexpensive wines…blah, blah, blah. The funny part of the forward came when a list of possible wine names were offered:
10. Chateau Traileur Parc
9. White Trashfindel
8. Big Red Gulp
7. World Championship Riesling
6. NASCARbernet
5. Chef Boyardeaux
4. Peanut Noir
3. I Can’t Believe it’s not Vinegar
2. Grape Expectations
1. Nasti Spumante

*This is all in good fun, and is not intended to disparage Wal-Mart or the customers who shop there….I’m one of them!

Christmas on My Mind

Tags: ,

I opened my first bottle of Rosé for the season last night. I love the strawberry smells of a Rosé, and it’s cool, crisp refreshing palate, especially after a hot day. I think I’ll be drinking a lot more of these this summer since we’re back in Texas. Plus, Rosé is a relatively affordable bottle to purchase.

The First One

Tags: , ,

I opened the first bottle of my Fusebox case of wine yesterday. Jonathan and I enjoyed it with burgers and grilled peaches. It seems like so long ago that I created this blend…in fact, I can’t even remember the exact percentages! I know it’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but I’ll have to look back for the exact numbers.

I did enjoy the blend, but I do think it needs some time in the bottle to “work things out.” So I look forward to seeing how this wine progresses.

One more quick note, voting is open for the Wine Blog Awards 2010. Voting is open until Sunday.

Odd Ball Bordeaux Lovers

Tags: , ,

Yesterday, the New York Times wine writer, Eric Asimov, wrote a piece entitled “Bordeaux Loses Prestige Among Younger Wine Lovers.” I read this article with great interest as my favorite wine region is without a doubt Bordeaux. If given the choice, I will almost always choose a Bordeaux. Why? Quality, consistency and tradition. Don’t get me wrong, I have had some bad Bordeaux along the way, but in general, I’m much more satisfied with an average Bordeaux than a new mystery wine. I do love other wines as well…my second favorite is just about anything Spanish. Asimov’s ideas and points really made me think about Jonathan and myself and our friends. We fit the demographic he’s talking about in his article, but are Jonathan and I the minority?

Crafty Things with Corks

Tags: , , ,

This is what happens when Jonathan goes out of town, and I get bored. I start doing arts & crafts

Actually, this is a project I’ve been wanting to work on for a while, but was never motivated to do. We’ve saved corks for as long as I can remember, and I guess today I was finally bored enough. I just winged it as far as construction. I’ve seen a bunch of these wreaths before with both Styrofoam and straw backs so I went to Michael’s and grabbed one.

To get started, I hot glued corks around the inner ring, working my way out. Overall, it was pretty easy, and I think it looks pretty good. I have no idea how many corks I used, but I still have an entire bag full that I didn’t even touch. I’m not sure what that says about us!

*Sorry for the dark photos…had to use my phone again.
