About
I started drinking wine when I was in college. Actually, it was my future husband who bought the first bottle for us. A red bottle of some Texas wine to go with a Valentine’s Day dinner. Neither of us had a palate for wine, or a clue of what we should look for in wine. It’s pretty safe to say, we choked it down as quickly as possible and couldn’t tell you the maker if our life depended on it.
Since our first experience with wine, you could say, “we’ve come along way, baby.” We continued drinking wine and “experimenting” with different bottles, but it was some of our friends, which we generally only see around the holidays, that really turned us on to wine. They’d share tales of wine adventures and wonderful bottles to go along with the stories, and soon Jonathan and I were hooked. And once you taste something magical, you’re on a quest to find another bottle or producer that shares his passion through wine.
I always joked that as a teacher it was my students who drove me to wine. Actually, it was my passion for something so beautiful and complex. To experience the hopes, dreams and expectations of a winemaker is like trying to read Shakespeare at times….sometimes you have no idea what they are doing, and other times it unfolds clearly in front of you. The beauty of wine is the interpretation it leaves to the drinker. What one person smells and tastes, another may not….and that’s OK.
Our wine travels have taken us to places like the Sonoma Valley, the Texas Hill Country, Bordeaux, France and even Michigan….you never know where you might find that special bottle. Personally, I have an unhealthy relationship with Bordeaux reds and Spanish Cava.
I’m a wine enthusiast, not the next Robert Parker. I drink wine because it gives me the opportunity to experience another part of the world, or it can take me back in time. My wine blog started as a way to record our thoughts on wine we sampled, and share information I pick up along the way. Since the start, its turned into so much more, but it still serves it’s main purpose – our thoughts on wine.
