This review is long over due. Jonathan and I drank this wine several weeks ago, but I never got around to posting the blog. We paired the Willamette Valley Vineyards Riesling with homemade Indian food (one of our first attempts). I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – Riesling and Indian food are a match made in heaven. I hoped this wine would be as tasty as the other bottles from Willamette Valley Vineyards, but I was left a little disappointed.

Jonathan’s turning the big 3-0 this year (yes, I am too!) so for Christmas I gave him a bottle of Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande from his birth year. Granted, 1980 wasn’t a spectacular year in the wine world so this wasn’t a hot commodity like say a 1982 bottle. In researching various châteaux, I found several I was interested in, but some were potentially past their prime or at least on their downhill slide. I ended up just taking the plunge and going all in, purchasing the bottle I really wanted. I knew it would be hit or miss if this bottle was past it’s prime.

Tags: funny e-mail, new wine names
My aunts forwarded me an e-mail yesterday they received, announcing a new discount item at Wal-Mart – wine! It goes on to say how it would be affordable and would target those looking for inexpensive wines…blah, blah, blah. The funny part of the forward came when a list of possible wine names were offered:
10. Chateau Traileur Parc
9. White Trashfindel
8. Big Red Gulp
7. World Championship Riesling
6. NASCARbernet
5. Chef Boyardeaux
4. Peanut Noir
3. I Can’t Believe it’s not Vinegar
2. Grape Expectations
1. Nasti Spumante
*This is all in good fun, and is not intended to disparage Wal-Mart or the customers who shop there….I’m one of them!

Jonathan and I planned to attend the Austin Wine & Music Festival this past weekend, but as usual I procrastinated in buying the tickets. Well, this time it actually paid off. My cousin Kevin e-mailed me on Thursday asking if we planned on checking out the event. He knows about our love for all things wine. His company was one of the sponsors so he was gracious enough to add our names to the Sponsor/VIP list. Jonathan and I weren’t really sure what that meant until we arrived.
Sponsor/VIP= free, unlimited wine tasting!
